Is Londonderry worth visiting?
Visiting Derry or Londonderry Ireland (Northern) as it's “officially” known is something I do quite often. The historic walled city of Londonderry is often overlooked and extremely underrated for folks visiting Ireland and yet it is one of my favourite cities in the country.
What is meant by Free Derry?
Free Derry (Irish: Saor Dhoire) was a self-declared autonomous Irish nationalist area of Derry, Northern Ireland, that existed between 1969 and 1972, during the Troubles.
What is it like to live in Derry?
You'll also find good schools, friendly locals, a low cost of living and an excellent quality of life, due in large part to the world-class beaches, golf courses and scenery on its doorstep — including the Giant's Causeway, the Wild Atlantic Way and 2019 Open host Royal Portrush.

Derry is famous for its old intact city walls which surround the old city which lies on the banks of the River Foyle. This one mile of city walls are known as one of the best examples of a walled city in Europe. In 1689 the city of Derry withstood a siege for 105 days.

Why do they call it Londonderry?
The name Derry comes from the Irish word doire, meaning “oak grove.” “London” was appended as a prefix to the name in 1613 when King James I granted the city a royal charter.
What did Billy Lundy do?
Lundy is reviled in Ulster loyalism as a traitor to this day, and is burned in effigy during the celebrations to mark the anniversary of the shutting of the gates of Derry in 1688. Much like Judas, his name has become a byword for "traitor" among unionists and loyalists.

Londonderry is one of the best towns. It is 30 minutes from Boston, 40 from the mountains, and 40 from the beach. It has amazing schools, it is beautiful in all seasons, and the people truly care about the feeling of the town. It is a great place to raise kids, grow up, or get old.
